THE RECENT EVENTS OF ARNOLDIANS (2009 - 2010)

SACS celebrates the 60th Republic Day of India.
Inspite of ‘not-so – good’ situation in the city due to H1N1, the city schools braved to celebrate the Republic Day in a little and small way possible. Arnoldians too were more than glad to celebrate it even though the green signal was given at the last moment. They worked hard to put up a short but wonderful programme of half an hour. The Principal was escorted to the Flag Post by the Flag bearers and other members of Management to the tune of marching beats of the drums. The Principal hoisted the flag followed by the salute and the National Anthem. The choir sang ‘Lord we pray for golden peace’, praying for peace in our country, followed by the prayer for the Motherland. A young Arnoldian of UKG gave the Republic Day Message. A beautiful display of ‘Surya Namaskar’ followed tuned to the rhythmic music. The KG Section boys marched on the Stage and danced to the tune of ‘Nanna Munna Rahi’. And to culminate it all, it was the turn of the students of Std. III who displayed a few stunts of acrobats to the rhythmic music. The Principal appreciated the efforts of everyone who put in hard work to put up the programme with a very short notice. In his message he narrated a story connecting it to the Constitution of India, where each citizen must protect, obey and practice the constitution and not allow it to dilute, as it is a precious gift handed down to us by our forefathers. A vote of Thanks was proposed and the school dispersed. St. Arnold’s Central School, Pune, wishes everyone a very Happy Republic Day. 2 min

MAKARSANKRANTI AT SACS
On 14th January people in India celebrate the harvest festival. Its called by different names in different places such as Makarsankranti, Pongal, Lohri, etc. On this day the Sun enters the Zodiac sign of Makar (Capricorn) and when the day and night are of equal duration. Days become longer from this point on so it is a time for celebration. In many places there is the tradition of flying kites. In some places bonfires are lit on this eve to culminate the end of winter. Sugarcane, milk, sweets, rice, etc. are shared. Arnoldians too celebrated this festival on 13th January especially the students of Std. II. They had ‘Kite Festival’. Sweets made of ‘til’ were shared with the traditional phrase “Tilgul ghya godd godd bola”. The meaning and importance of festival was highlighted by different messages. Then they flew the kites on the ground. There is also a symbolic meaning to Makara Sankranti. ’Makar’ means crocodile. Sankranti means ’to cross into or change.’ The ’Makara’ or crocodile represents the materialistic world and ’Sankranti’ gives an opportunity to get away from the clutches of the crocodile or the materialistic world. This aspect too was creatlvely brought out by young Arnoldians of UKG Section, where they were taught to make crocodiles out of ‘bitter gourd’. SACS wishes the every Indian Citizen a Happy Feast!! 2 min

MERRY CHRISTMAS & A HAPPY NEW YEAR 2010
Come December and there is Christmas in the air! St. Arnold’s was no exception to it. The children and the whole school was excited about the celebrations. The carols were played as the days neared. The school closed on 22nd for Christmas Vacation, but not before celebrating the feast of love and peace. The new Christmas tree and the crib were the new arrivals this year. There was a special assembly conducted imparting the message of love and peace. In tune to the carols the nativity was depicted. There was a fusion of East and West where the Shepherds danced in the Indian style and the angels from Pre-Primary to the tune of ‘Jungle Bells’. And then the Santa arrived to the lively tune of the choir elevating the spirits of the assembly. Later the celebrations continued in the respective classes with Santa going around distributing sweets and gifts to the children. In his message the principal asked the students the meaning of love and peace. “Peace means we should not fight and disturb others. And Love means we should have and make good friends”, said the students. Let us spread the message of Peace and Love. MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A PROSPEROUS NEW YEAR 2010!! 2 min

SACS celebrates CHILDREN’S DAY
14th November is the day every child cherishes because it’s the birthday of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, fondly called as ‘Chacha Nehru’. This day is also called as “Children’s Day”. Since it was Saturday and would be a holiday, the Arnoldians celebrated it on 13th November. The young Arnoldians moved to the Assembly ground, walking to the tune of the album ‘Coloring the World’ to watch the spectacular surprise which their teachers had for them. The Special Assembly was conducted exclusively by the teachers. The Princiapal paid homage to the Portrait of ‘Chacha Nehru’. The teachers put the children in the prayerful ambience by their melodious prayer song. The assembly followed. The importance of the day was explained. Then the celebrations began. The Fancy Dress Finals was the first on agenda where the students in their fancy costumes delighted the gathering. The ‘teachers’ surprise’ followed. The students could hardly believe their eyes when they saw their teachers dressed as students on the stage. A musical called ‘The Naughty Class’ was humorously performed bringing in the message that Hard Work Succeeds. Later, in the form of a dance, the teachers showed how Arnoldians can bring in development in rural set-up. The “Kenyan Guests” came in both in the form of giants and dwarfs dancing to the tune of ‘I love to sing’. The children had a good time seeing the talents of their loving teachers on stage. The sweets were distributed to the children. The day culminated in Drawing Competition held for the students of Std. III and IV by Max Life Insurance Company. 2 min

DIWALI SPARKS
SPARK – is a word which startles, which ignites a flame. SACS sparked itself in the first week of October before they broke for Diwali Vacation. The month saw its beginning with the celebration of ‘Gandhi Jayanti’ where the whole school broke in awareness of cleanliness and non-violence and gladly spent some time in cleaning the school campus. Later in the week the students of Std. II had a special class on–OUR HELPERS, where they had an interactive session and demonstration given by a mason, carpenter and an electrician. The specialty of SACS is that every event has a lesson to learn. This years Diwali too had its special. Some students organized an event called SPARK, wherein they collected clothes, eatables, etc. and spent some time with the less fortunate children in the Social centre called Sarva Seva Sangh. “It was an enriching Diwali Exposure”’ they said where they could reach out to others. The young Arnoldians did their part too by contributing some amount which was forwarded to this centre. To culminate all this, SACS celebrated Diwali on 9th Oct. The whole school was in RED – the colour of celebration. Amidst all the celebrations, the greatest lesson that Arnoldians learnt was that “They are the Light and their light should shine to all”. SACS wishes HAPPY DIWALI to all. Remember - let your LIGHT SHINE. 2 min

62nd INDEPENDENCE DAY
St. Arnold’s Central School, Pune celebrated the 62nd Independence Day in the school, though on lower key due to the outbreak of Swine Flu in the City. As a precautionary measure, only the Staff members attended the Flag Hoisting ceremony. In his message, the Principal urged the gathering to imbibe a fighting spirit just like our forefathers who won the freedom for us. We have to fight unitedly, he said, may it be against injustice, corruption or even calamities like drought and swine flu. He also gave his personal reflection saying perhaps it was time for all of us to get out of the PATRIARCHAL concept and stop hurting “MOTHER earth” or “MOTHER India” either consciously and subconsciously, after effect of which are visible in society. Mother does not react. But how long can she bear?

The school was also fumigated on 13th and 14th August as a precautionary measure against H1N1. 2 min
